Iliotibial Band (ITB) Pain is a common source of lateral knee pain in runners.
The ITB runs along the lateral aspect of the thigh, from the pelvis to the tibia and crosses both the hip and knee joints. It is an important stabiliser structure of the lateral compartment of the knee as the knee joint flexes and extends.
🆘 ITB Pain is an overuse injury that can be caused as a result of biomechanical insufficiencies or a rapid increase in training volume/load in runners.
ITB Pain can be managed conservatively, through education, advice, activity modification and an individualised training programme.
