How does Online Physiotherapy work?
We use a safe and secure online networking platform to provide physiotherapy assessments and treatments for our new and existing clients. All you need is a stable internet connection and a device with a camera such as a smart phone, tablet or laptop that is capable of accessing the internet.
What do you need?
A quiet room
You do not need a big room for the session, only enough room to perform some basic exercises. It will be best to be alone in the room to ensure there are minimal distractions, which will provide an optimal learning environment.
Equipment which may be useful
This is not essential as we can utilise bodyweight exercises during the session. If you do have equipment such as resistance bands, kettlebells, dumbbells, tennis balls or foam roller that is great. However, you can also use items from within the household such as a step, a backpack full of books, a book, tins and cans or water bottles.
This may be useful for you to write down any information from the session which may help you to retain the knowledge and skills you are learning. You don’t have to worry about writing down the prescribed exercises, as we can send these over to you after the session.
The majority of musculoskeletal injuries and complaints can be treated without hands on treatment.
We use a detailed interview and movement assessment during our virtual online physiotherapy sessions to:
Rule out red flags
When assessing an musculoskeletal injury or complaint it is important to rule out potentially more medically serious conditions through asking specific questions. This helps to ensure our service is appropriate for you.
Help you to understand your injury
Through ensuring you understand your injury, body and the contributing factors to what you are experiencing, it can help you to self-manage your pain and successfully achieve your goals on the road to recovery and better health.
Provide a Diagnosis
An accurate diagnosis helps us to plan the treatment plan of care effectively, ensuring you achieve optimal results and get back to doing the things you love most.
Devise a treatment plan
We will work with you to devise individualised goals, whilst identifying any potential barriers to achieving your goals.
We will discuss with you the suggested plan of care to maximise your results.
Understand the bigger picture
As well as diagnosing your injury, it is important for us to get to know your story. This is because there can sometimes be several factors that are contributing to your injury or pain. Understanding this will help to ensure your treatment plan is effective.
Commence one to one sessions
We can't use manual therapy techniques in our virtual online physiotherapy sessions, however we will take you through specific individualised movement techniques and exercises to help you achieve the your goals we devised in the treatment plan. We will also best advise you on how you can perform these movements and exercises on your own.
Research has shown that telerehabilitation (online physiotherapy) is effective and comparable to conventional methods of healthcare delivery for the improvement of physical function and pain in a variety of musculoskeletal conditions.
